Tino Bere

Senior Partner

Tino, the founder and Senior Partner in the firm has over 20 years experience in legal practice, specialising in corporate law with emphasis on institutional set up and advancement, commercial and property practice. He holds an LL.B (Hons) from the University of Zimbabwe and a number of local and international human rights awards. Bere has a passion for Human Rights (esp. Training) & Legal Profession-Governance. He has been a regular resource person, trainer and facilitator on legal profession training and human rights training and outreach programmes for Law Society of Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights and SADC Lawyers Association for many years. He has also become a regular speaker at CLC Conferences since 2007 in Nairobi, Kenya and a regular resource person for the World Bar Council and the International Bar Association.

He has spoken at SADC Lawyers Association Symposium on Administration of Justice (Namibia 2010), the Commonwealth Lawyers Conference 2009 in Hong Kong and at the World Movement for Democrat 6th Assembly held in Jakarta, Indonesia. With more than 20 years experience, Tino leads the firm’s Corporate Division. Tino founded the firm in 1992, then known as Bere & Associates.

Tino has also until 2012 lectured at Africa University in the following areas:

Professional Engagements

  • Organised Manicaland Legal Practitioners response to Chiadzwa human rights abuses in terms of Advocacy, Publicity & Litigation.
  • Part of team awarded ZLHR 2008 Human Rights Defender of the Year for timely and effective response to Human Rights abuses in Chiadzwa, Marange area, Manicaland, Zimbabwe.(Manicaland Legal Practitioners Association)
  • Nominee for Human Rights Defender of the year 2008 for intervention to free Advocate Eric Matinenga and other unlawfully detained activists and to defend them during persecution by Government of Zimbabwe.
  • Nominee for ZLHR 2007 Human Rights lawyer of the year for organising united response by Legal Profession in Mutare leading to protest march against persecution of the profession and arrest of the majority of the lawyers.
  • Nominee for Zimbabwe the ZLHR Human Rights Lawyer of the Year 2006 for his role in Human Rights Training within the legal profession and for his contribution to governance reform at ZLHR.
  • Sits on many local charitable trusts and boards especially dealing with HIV AIDs and with orphans and vulnerable children.
  • President – Law Society of Zimbabwe (Jan 2011 – Jan 2013) Board Chairperson-ZESN (Zimbabwe Election Support Network) since 2008 – 2012
  • Councillor-The Commonwealth Lawyers Association Council, (since 2005 – 2007)
  • Board Member-The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (2007 – 2010)
  • Founding Member of Mutare Legal Projects Centre Board. (currently Chairperson)
