Fraud on the Prowl
This is a cautionary statement that all lawyers should take heed of. Since the beginning of this year a fraudster specifically targeting Lawyers has been on the loose. A number of lawyers have fallen victim to this con-artist.The fraudster identifies himself as Dr. Moyo a director of Unki Mine in Ngezi or Oracle Company from South Africa or a director with an NGO. He makes his victim believes he is interested in engaging them or their firm as its corporate lawyers or for any other legal services. He sounds very, respectable, plausible, convincing and very formal as he refers to well-known existing names of people that may have links with the particular lawyer.
To date he has managed to rip-off a number of lawyers by misrepresenting that he has encountered a tyre puncture and needs some money which he will refund upon meeting the lawyer. All targeted lawyers so far have sent him the cash through the Ecocash facility. The moment the money is sent to his number, he scuttles. This is a daring fraudster who has repeatedly targeted a number of lawyers in a short space of time. The fraudster appears to be very sophisticated and ahead of his targeted victims and may change his tactics once detected. Members are urged to extremely.
